Dedicated to the Breed

Welcome to Meraki Cavaliers, the home of North Carolina born and bred Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. I fell in love with this lovely little spaniel over a decade ago after speaking to a couple who were passing through Colorado with their Cavalier Spaniels while on a road trip. Their little spaniels impressed me with their versatility and fearless, outgoing, happy nature. I vowed then that I would have one of my own when the time was right. Extensive research into the breed only solidified my desire. 10 years, two Pekinese and one Corgi later, I achieved my goal. I took my time acquiring my first Cavalier King Charles Spaniel as I wanted to really understand the breed and be able to provide her with a home environment that would nurture her happy gentle spirit.

Indie is my first Cavalier. She runs agility and has her Canine Good Citizenship certificate. When we find time, we visit assisted living facilities so she can share her boundless love and enthusiasm for play with the residents. My dogs are part and parcel of my family and household. I chose my home and designed any upgrades with them in mind. They have an acre of wooded land to play on and a 2000 sf dog run. My furniture often doubles as an agility course, and I as a dog bed. They live with two cats, one of whom either ignores them or hisses and one who thinks he’s a dog and plays with them, so my dogs are socialized to a feline friendly home. They also share their home with a Pekinese who has severe seizures, so they are raised to expect the unexpected.

I am a small breeder, just starting out, and I will only breed when I want a puppy myself. My dogs are all thoroughly health checked for the major concerns from the time they are two-years-old, including hips, patellas, Dry Eye, Curling Coat and Episodic Falling Syndrome. They are also checked every year for healthy eyes and hearts from the time they are puppies. Additionally, my dogs are scanned for SM and CM. I require the same stringent health checks for any Sire or Dam I might breed my dogs to. I also aim for longevity. On top of this, I will also endeavor to produce puppies that are sound of temperament and structure, adhering to the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breed Standard. My dogs are AKC and CKCSC USA registered. My goal is not to make money, but rather to help in some small way to make the breed I love better and share the joy of opening your home to the devoted love and fearless disposition that is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
